New Living Translation | NLT

Proverbs‬ ‭6‬:‭9-11

But you, lazybones, how long will you sleep? When will you wake up? A little extra sleep, a little more slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest—then poverty will pounce on you like a bandit; scarcity will attack you like an armed robber.

Reflective Thinking

When I started my first entrepreneurial endeavor I remember beating myself up with this verse. Please don’t do what I did, it’s stupid. It’s not productive. Also, remember this, don’t use this as permission to not rest. These verses give you wisdom about the long-term results of laziness. What’s the cause of perpetual laziness? If this is an area of struggle, I think it’s due to a lack of understanding your purpose, not having a clear and simple vision to run towards and not having specific goals to target around those things. When I have those three things in my heart and on my mind… laziness is never an issue.

Action Idea

Now, I recommend using this wisdom like a notification on your phone. That’s why we write it on our hearts. So that when we come across these circumstances in our lives we quickly recognize the situation and make a wise decision. If you don’t know your purpose seek out Your Creator, He knows your purpose. Next, seek out your vision and write it down clearly and as simple as you can so you and those that read it can run full speed towards it. Then, get wise counsel and create some specific and trackable goals that move you towards fulfilling your vision. Lastly, remember and ask yourself the wisest question … based on my past experience, my current circumstances, and my future hopes and dreams… what is the wise thing for me to do?
