New Living Translation | NLT

Proverbs 5:9-11

If you do, you will lose your honor and will lose to merciless people all you have achieved. Strangers will consume your wealth, and someone else will enjoy the fruit of your labor. In the end you will groan in anguish when disease consumes your body.

Reflective Thinking

This verse needs some context. We are being taught by a loving Father who wants the best for us. He is explaining all the terrible things we could expect if we hook up (or more bluntly said, have sex) with an immoral person. In fact, He admonishes us not to even go near their door. Do you want to lose your honor and all you have achieved? Or, have strangers consume your hard earned money and enjoy the fruits of your labor? What about getting STD’s that make your physical body the living hell? No. I didn’t think you’d go for those things.

Action Idea

Knowing this wisdom, apply it by creating boundaries in your life to protect you from the immoral person. There is this book called the Little Red Book of Wisdom by Mark DeMoss that has a chapter dedicated to creating boundaries to protect you from getting into this situation. Buy this book, read it, and apply its wisdom. It will bless your life. Lastly, if it’s a physical copy, give it away to someone you know who would read and apply its wisdom.
