Proverbs 23:20-21- God’s Word is Truth and Love

Reflective Thinking
God’s advice many times can be hard to hear but it’s wise to remember God’s Word is Love and He is speaking to us as his sons and daughters. I am also reminded of how the religious leaders were freaking out because Jesus was eating and drinking with the kinds of sinners that this verse warns us about.
What advice is right? Both. I always hated that answer. Ha! This led me to do some research on this verse, specifically, the first part of the verse where it says “Do not associate with…”. This part can also be translated as “Do not be among…”, meaning this… don’t do it yourself. Living a life of drunkenness or as a glutton will put you on the path to poverty and not just financially. “Do not be among…” also means it’s wise to protect yourself from having heavy drinkers and gluttons in your inner circle of friends you have given access to influence you.
Action Idea
Reflect on your own life and those who are in your inner circle in relation to this verse. Do you need to make some changes in your eating habits? Do you need to change who you allow to influence you? Answer those questions and ask God for help and His wisdom to take the appropriate action in love.
