Reflective Thinking
Today let’s think about money. Money is neither good nor bad. It’s simply a tool. Having money is closely related to power. More money… more power. When it comes to borrowing money… it really does make us slaves to the lender. I’ve had hills and valleys of dealing with this in my life. I can tell you this… I prefer having freedom over being a slave. Being in debt doesn’t just make you a slave to the lender… you become a slave to making money and payments on your debts. It limits choices and creates stress.
Action Idea
Let’s choose to limit borrowing money where we can and fight to get out and/or stay out of debt. If you’re in debt, get in agreement with your spouse or close friends on a plan to get out of debt. If you’re not, that’s awesome! Do the same thing with savings and investments. Next, I recommend a few resources to help with this. The first is The Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey. If you’re in a position where you can only get this book by borrowing money… don’t! Go find it at the public library or see if anybody you know can give it to you. Next, when it comes to goals I do well with visuals and Joseph Sangl created this financial ladder concept (see it here) that has really helped me visualize progress. The whole program is good and is called I Was Broke. Now I’m Not. Download the ladder here. Finally, in all your getting… get wisdom and get understanding… about your money. Your future is financial freedom!
