New King James Version | NKJV

Proverbs 17:27-28

He who has knowledge spares his words,
And a man of understanding is of a calm spirit.
Even a fool is counted wise when he holds his peace;
When he shuts his lips, he is considered perceptive.

Reflective Thinking

The book of Proverbs has a lot to say about the words we say and how they impact us and the world around us. The wisdom here is to speak less and be chill… and this is especially true for someone like me who naturally doesn’t spare words that often. I don’t know how many times in my life, I’ve been in a situation that would have come out a lot better if I would have simply said less. Abraham Lincoln says it like this, “Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.”

Action Idea

Most of us know if we talk too much. If you’re honestly not sure, ask some close friends and see what they say. So, next time we feel the need to speak…. when we know it would be wise to keep our mouths shut… let’s chill out, listen more, and if we absolutely need to say something, make sure it’s not done impulsively but thoughtfully from a place of peace.
