Proverbs 11:2

When pride comes [boiling up with an arrogant attitude of self-importance], then come dishonor and shame, But with the humble [the teachable who have been chiseled by trial and who have learned to walk humbly with God] there is wisdom and soundness of mind.

Reflective Thinking

The first thing that came to mind when reading this verse is this, God resists the proud… but gives grace to the humble. Proverbs are so powerful because they keep things very simple. In this verse it clearly and simply explains, when we are prideful it will bring us dishonor and shame but when we are humble it will reveal wisdom and a disciplined life. When wisdom is presented like this it makes it clear which decisions to make. This Amplified version explains that this kind of humility pours out from a teachable spirit that has been through the fire, purified, and has learned to walk humbly with God.

Action Idea

Reflect on your own attitude and ask God to reveal where pride comes through in your life. Pride is sneaky but once it’s out in the open, it becomes much easier to identify and lay it down. Once you’ve identified the pride in your life… lay it down and choose the way of humility… the way of wisdom and discipline.
